What the role involves

• Leading manufacturing operations across production, engineering maintenance, and quality, with accountability for all manufacturing output across shifts running 24/5 or 24/7 in larger facilities
• Delivering manufacturing KPIs including safety incident rate, first-time quality, on-time delivery, and cost per unit against budget, with monthly performance reviews presented to the Operations Director or MD
• Managing the manufacturing management team, including Production Managers, Shift Managers, and Engineering Maintenance leads, typically across a direct and indirect workforce of 50 to 500 people depending on business scale
• Driving lean and continuous improvement programmes across all manufacturing processes, targeting waste reduction and efficiency gains
• Managing manufacturing capital expenditure, including equipment investment, facility improvements, and tooling projects
• Reporting manufacturing performance to the Operations Director or MD, including KPI dashboards, improvement plans, and risk escalation

Who employers are looking for

An engineering degree or equivalent, typically in manufacturing or mechanical engineering, is the standard expectation.
